The execution of literature studies has become challenging - with substantial increases in the volume and complexity of the literature, the number of research questions, key subgroups and key geographies.
We have spent three years researching the potential of AI to make the delivery of literature reviews more efficient whilst improving quality.
Following the success of our research program we rolled out AI-enabled literature studies and are seeing client uptake of around 90% where offered.
AI performance at each key step, and the corresponding time savings, are shown below.
We follow ‘human-in-the-loop’ principles at each stage: our researchers do necessary pre- and post-processing for the AI tools, and validate and QC the AI output, as well, of course, interpret the data and generate the key insights relevant to client decision-making and strategy.
We are now deploying AI beyond SLRs in other types of literature reviews as well as other evidence services that also require the distillation and synthesis of a large volume of data.
